“And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus”. – Luke 6:11 (KJV)
The issue in contention in today’s scriptural reading is concerning what to do on the Sabbath day. When the law of Sabbath was given the Almighty God did not say we shouldn’t do good on the Sabbath. Christ asked “Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good or to do evil? To save life, or to destroy it? The bigot Jews could not provide answers to these questions instead they got enraged that Jesus healed a man with a withered hand. The Jews in their bigotry laid more emphasis on part of their religious teaching that was introduced by man or completely misunderstood and misinterpreted. It is unthinkable that people will be enraged because someone was healed of a withered hand, but that was an action that fulfilled scriptures as stated in Isaiah 53:3-4(KJV) “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted”. The only answer to this contradictory action of the bigot Jews is that it is the fulfilment of prophecy.
In our various lives how have we allowed the tradition of men to override the truth? What doctrine have been introduced in our lives via the teaching of men? Sometimes it carries a discipline tag that can make it momentarily acceptable but it has no scriptural foundation. No matter how righteous it looks, as far as it has no scriptural support it should be discarded. Jesus said in Matthew 11:6(KJV) “And blessed is he who is not offended because of me”.
Prayer: Father help me to fully separate tradition from the righteous teaching of the Word of God. In Jesus Name
