BIBLE READING: EXODUS 31, 32, 33; MATTHEW 22:1-23
“Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, tell them which are bidden, Behold I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatling are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage” Matthew 22:4 (KJV).
Here, Jesus gave a parable of the kingdom to show God’s readiness to save and the people’s rejection of God’s liberal and loving offer of salvation. The guests were not expected to do anything to qualify neither were they required to pay anything. The bridegroom has made everything ready and paid every bill. The guest was simply invited to enjoy the meal and the joy of the feast.
This is a picture of God’s salvation plan and program. Jesus paid it all. He offers the sinner free admission into the banquet. But unfortunately, man continues to reject God’s offer of love.
In this parable, the people made light of the invitation and went their way. What a reflection of the response of sinners to the preaching of the gospel. How often people make light of and even ridicule the preachers and the gospel. It is so disappointing to see how people make light of weighty matter that borders on eternity just because of the pleasure of sin.
This shows how much man has been deceived and blinded by the god of this world. So blinded that spiritual matters and issues of eternity do not make sense to them.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for removing the veil that once blinded me.
