BIBLE READING: EXODUS 34, 35; MATTHEW 22:24-46
“Jesus answered and said unto them. Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God” Mathew 22:29 (KJV).
The scriptures are not only the instructions and the commandments of God. There is an aspect of the scriptures that is alien to so many people. The principles of God are to be imbibed and obeyed. In obeying and following the scriptures, we learn the culture and the character of God.
The instructions and commandments of the scriptures are the basis or means for Christian values and godly lifestyle. The principles outlined in the scriptures, if carefully obeyed and observed, will lead to conformity to God’s character. They are meant to guide the lifestyle of the followers of God. There is however another dimension of the scripture that we must know, this dimension was expressed several times in the scripture. This is the aspect of the power of God. So many who claim to be followers of Jesus are weak because in their religious attitude, they only follow the instructions and principles of the scriptures but fail to see the empowering aspect.
When Jesus said that man shall not live by bread only but by the word, he meant the word not only guides but also empowers people. The word nourishes, breaks yokes, refreshes and empowers for Christian service. Everything we see today was created by the word of God. The word gives life to dead things and heals the sick of all forms of infirmity.
The word believed and spoken by faith can bring positive changes in the life and circumstance of the believers. It can move mountains and bring great blessings. The word sent forth heals the sick and delivers him from destruction (Psalm 107:20). The word of God is quick, active and powerful. It breaks the rock into pieces and makes the rough paths smooth. The word believed, obeyed and spoken by faith can accomplish so much in the life of the believer.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to know the principles and power of the scriptures.
