BIBLE READING: LEVITICUS 1, 2, 3; MATTHEW 24:1-26
“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the son of man be” Matthew 24:37 (KJV)
There are certain peculiarities with the days of Noah that Jesus draws our attention to as it relates to his second coming. Noah was a man that found favour with God and so was instructed by God to build an ark for the salvation of the world. In obedience, Noah began the building of the ark. It looked ridiculously abnormal and so his generation made mockery of him like they do to preachers of the gospel today. People often make light of the gospel today.
They consider that the world has gone nuclear, advanced so much in technology that the gospel does not make sense in this world of technology. They reason that the world is so developed that God cannot think of ever destroying it.
There was abundance of iniquity and wickedness in Noah’s day same as today. The state of unbelief was high then like it is today. They reasoned that God is too loving to destroy man, they forgot that God is equally a consuming fire. The people of Noah could not imagine the possibility of flood destroying the whole world then just as people reason today especially with sophisticated fire fighters; with aircraft to land in the space and with all the technological gadgets to detect and knock off any such thing that God could put in place.
The pleasure and comfort on earth makes people to tend to forget about any heaven anywhere. Like in the days of Noah, buying, selling, eating, drinking, Night club and parties have engrossed so many that heaven is not an issue to take serious. But God’s word will always come to pass. Heaven s real and so is hell.
Prayer: Lord, may your coming not take me unaware.
