“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. – Matt. 5:6(KJV)
In the world today hunger and thirst of righteousness has become a contradiction to societal norms with the attendant value systems. The strong desire for riches has pushed away man’s hunger for his creator. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 vividly describe the prevailing situation and the character that is associated to men in the last days.
Iniquity and unrighteous living shall characterize the activities of the end-times. We are witnessing these in its concentrated form and practice. In the midst of all these, seeking after and being thirsty for righteousness runs contrary to societal values. Excessive greed for money and riches, self-centeredness, proud, blasphemy, ungratefulness, unthankful, unholy, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God will be the prevailing characteristics of the last days.
In order to maintain our sanctification in this crooked and ungodly world we must pant after God with strong craving and thirst for righteousness as a lifestyle. The Psalmist clearly described this in Psalm 63:1, 2(KJV) “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee”. The bible promises that our hunger and thirst for righteousness shall be filled. In our quest for righteousness we need the help of the Holy Spirit as promised in Zechariah 4:6 “………….Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of host”. In Malachi 3:3 the bible says of the Holy Spirit “And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto LORD an offering in righteousness.” We need the purifying fire of the Holy Ghost daily to keep us sanctified and continuously craving and thirsty for righteousness.
Prayer: Father, let the purifying fire of the Holy Ghost consume every sin and unrighteous desires in my life, thereby releasing me to hunger and thirst for righteousness. In Jesus Name
