BIBLE READING: LEVITICUS 11, 12, MATTHEW 26:1-25
“The son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born” Matthew 26:24 (KJV).
The sin of betrayal is a case of disloyalty. It could be as a result of selfish and conflicting ambition, greed, hate or offense. It is annoying and disappointing to see someone that you have shown so much love and favour turn around to betray you.
We see betrayal all around us as we live our lives. We see it in the family, in our work places, in the society and even in the Church. Jesus, as loving, merciful, gentle, humble, meek and caring as he is was not spared.
Although it was written concerning him that he will be betrayed but no one was programmed to betray him. Judas became a channel because he simply opened the door to greed, covetousness, selfish gain and offense. He probably thought he could make money and see Jesus use his power to get out of the hands of the Pharisees and Priest who were after his life. For love of money, Judas betrayed Jesus.
Some for position, for husband or wife, for fame or for employment, for admission into tertiary institutions, for appointment or contract or for love of money betray Jesus today. Others betray him for pleasure and ungodly alliance. What will you do with Jesus? Betray him or serve him with commitment and loyalty?
Prayer: Lord grant me the grace to remain faithful to you in Jesus name.
