“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” – Gal. 6: 2(KJV)
The Law of Christ as stated in the scripture of today is as enumerated by Christ in Luke 6: 27-38. Christianity is all about relationship. Relationship with God and our fellow man. It was for this reason Paul said in Acts 24:16(KJV) “And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward man”.In our earthly sojourn we are admonish to bear one another’s burden. We are expected to be our brother’s keeper, preferring one another in love. Love is the key word in our Christian relationship. You cannot bear the burden of the person you hate. It is the love of God among us that will induce us to fulfil the law of Christ. The Law of Christ as enumerated in Luke chapter 6 is predicated on godly love for one another. It is true love that generates genuine giving and support for the welfare of others. In Acts 20:35(KJV) Paul said “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive”. In this age where the spirit of greed and self-centeredness is the order of the day we need to daily ask God to endue us with the Spirit of love. Giving to the brethren and bearing the burden of one another is a product of genuine love. 1 John 3:17(KJV) asked “But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?”We are in the last days when there will be dominance of self-centeredness, self-glorification, absence of true love, greed among men, it therefore behoove us as Christian to step up the practical application of the law of Christ amongst us and in our relationship with our fellowman so as to be properly called the salt of the earth. This will then be our epistle written with the pen of our character to our communities thereby winning souls to our God.
Prayer: Father strengthen me in the area of true love for my fellowman and grant me the grace to be selfless in my pursuit. In Jesus Name.
