Bible Reading: Ruth 1, 2, 3, 4, Luke 8:1-28.
Memory Verse: “For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.” Luke 8:17 (KJV)
Everyone has one secret or the other. Such secrets are usually shared with best friends or close ally because you do not want many people to know about them. Such secrets become a form of bond particularly if it contains some criminal elements. In fact the bearer of such secrets is also at risk because anytime the owner feels such secrets could be divulged, he feels on edge.
This is why some people go to the extent of killing the bearer of such secrets. This was the situation with a man who had a case in court and some people were to cross a river to witness against him in court. And so he organized that a boat man should drown them on their way. When this had been done, he decided to kill the boat man so that nobody would know about the secret. However, he forgot that God knows everything. The bible says in Luke 8:17 (KJV), “For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.” Several years later, the man was sick and a man of God was called to pray for him. While praying, God revealed the incident to him and asked him to raise the issue with the sick man. When the man of God raised the issue, the sick man was so surprised because the secret that he thought was dead and buried suddenly resurrected. But sadly, instead of repenting, he sent the man of God away and told him never to come back to his house again.
What does this portend for us? It means we should be mindful of everything we do whether openly or secretly. And anyone who is mindful of this will most likely run away from sin knowing that it cannot be hidden for ever because God Almighty knows everything. No wonder the bible says of the scribes in Matthew 9:4 (KJV), “And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?”
So no secret can be hidden from God. All the wrong things that you have done or may do are known to God. Therefore the wisest thing to do is to ask for mercy from God for all your sins and seek for grace not to commit further sins again. Proverbs 28:13 (KJV) provides that, “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
Prayer: Father forgive me all the sins I have committed whether in the secret or in the open. Please give me the grace to live above sins for the rest of my life in Jesus name.
