Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 25, 26; Luke 12:31-59.
Memory Verse: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Luke 12:34 (KJV)
A Treasure is wealth of any kind or in any form stored up. This could be stored anywhere but usually in a place safe enough not to attract robbers. People keep their treasure in different places. Some are kept in the house, some in the banks and some used to be buried on land. Why are treasures kept? It’s usually to prevent it from being stolen so that when the need arises, you will be able to access it and use it for the purpose intended. And generally, wherever your treasure is, you keep in mind constantly. The bible puts this succinctly in Luke 12:34 (KJV), “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Treasure vary widely from individuals to cultures but they include, antiquities, jewelries and money amongst others. A lot of antiquities are missing because they have been stolen or in obscured place because the person who kept it there had forgotten or died and nobody remembered the site anymore. Others have been lost to bankruptcy of banks and other storehouses.
How then do you keep your treasure where it cannot be stolen, corrupted, lost or destroyed? The bible provides the answer in Luke 12:33 (KJV), “Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.” Because it is the seat of God, there cannot be any corruption of your treasure. As stated above, your treasure in heaven cannot be stolen neither can it be destroyed. It will be there for ever.
Interestingly, your Treasure in heaven has a wider scope. It includes every moment of joy shared with others. So it is not just sharing your wealth with others but whether you share good times with them. This of course includes using your resources for things of God. In Matthew 19:21 (KJV), “Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.” Even before Jesus said this to the man above, he had spoken earlier about reward. He said in Matthew 10:41-42 (KJV), “He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. [42] And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.”
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to keep my treasure in heaven so that I can be heaven minded always in Jesus name.
