Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 14; 15; Luke 17:1-19.
Memory Verse: “And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Lord, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.” 2 Samuel 15:31 (KJV)
Ahithophel was a counsellor of David. But whatever he counselled was with so much precision that the bible said it was like enquiring from the oracle of God. 2 Samuel 16:23 (KJV) says, “And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.” David’s son, Absalom who revolted against him knew the wisdom of Ahithophel. So he sent for him so that he would get the best counsel and thus win the war against his father, David.
When David learnt of the switch of Ahithophel, his response to the news showed his faith in God. In 2 Samuel 15:31 (KJV), “And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Lord, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.” David could have felt that was the end of the road for his reign knowing the precision of Ahithophel’s counsel. Instead, he chose to believe that God can do all things and he prayed to God. He did not stop there, he further sent a close friend to Absalom so that he can counter the counsel of Ahithophel.
Let us glimpse a few lessons from these acts of David. He believed nothing was impossible with God. So whatever you are facing in any area of your life, believe in God that he can turn it around no matter how difficult it looks. The bible says in Luke 1:37 (KJV), “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” So the first thing you should do is to pray to God to intervene and turn the situation in your favour. Secondly, David did not stop there, he took further actions by sending his close friend to Absalom’s camp to go and counter the counsel of Ahithophel.
So there are actions you must take after prayers. God will not do for you whatever you can do yourself. You must seek to do whatever actions that will help you achieve the desired goal. If it is exam, you need to read, if it is an interview, you need to prepare. Ensure you take actions, within the word of God that are necessary towards the turnaround of your situation.
Thirdly, you must be patient and sensitive to God’s instructions on your situation. In case of David, he waited for instructions from the people he had sent to give him feedback from Absalom’s camp. And when the instructions came, he took action. So you must be ready to take actions after you get revelations on what to do in the circumstance.
Prayer: Father, in Jesus mighty name, help me to focus on you always and not on the challenges facing me.
