Bible Reading: 1 Kings 10,11; Luke 21:20-38
Memory verse: “For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and His heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father” 1 Kings 11:4 (KJV).
The story of Solomon is one we must learn from in our walk with God. Many started very well in their walk with God but fell out of the way towards the end. Our walk with God is a race, a marathon, you must endure till the end. There will be so many distractions and temptations, but he that endure till the end will be saved.
King Solomon had it all! He had all the good things of life. God gave him riches in addition to the wisdom he asked from God. His wisdom endeared him to many. Even the Queen of Sheba, with all her glory, was awed by what she saw when she came. But Solomon went off course. He had so many wives and concubines. His wives turned his heart away from God. The same Solomon who God appeared to twice (1 Kings 10:10) started worshipping idols with his wives. Where did Solomon miss it?
The bible says “… King Solomon loved many strange women….” ( 1 Kings 11:1). He went after the same women God told the Children of Israel not to have anything to do with. He started worshipping Astoreth, Micom, Chemosh, etc. He missed it when as a King he put himself above the commandment of God who said, “ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods:..” (1 Kings 11:2b). That was exactly what happened. Paul urged us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling by obeying God (Philippians 2:12). No commandment of God is insignificant. Many who took God’s command for granted have paid dearly for it, while some are still suffering the consequences today.
No man is wiser than God, He is the only wise God (Jude 1:25).S He has seen what will happen if His people mix with strange women. He knows the end from the beginning of every transaction you do. Just do whatever you do in light of His Word and you will fare well and finish well in life.
Prayer: Dear Father, I ask for grace to take all Your commands reverently.
