…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 1,2,3; John 10:1-21

“But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these other things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

There are many things competing for our attention in our daily living.  God recognizes these but wants us to prioritize what we seek as this is what will eventually make or mar or lives. Jesus, in the bible verse of today gave us the number one thing to seek, and that is the Kingdom of God and its righteousness. Those who seek God and the interest of His Kingdom do well in life.

There was drought in a certain country named Zarapheth leading to food shortage, and word of God came to the man of God, Elisha to move down there. On getting to Zarapheth he met a widow who was preparing the very last food they had in the house, with no idea of where next to get food. Yet, when the man of God asked her to “make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son” (1 Kings 17:13), she did as was instructed. In the end, she and her son were supernaturally sustained by God all through the drought. As you put God first He takes care of that seemingly impossible situation for nothing is impossible with Him.

In our bible reading of today, Solomon has just been crowned King, but he had issues of his own that only he knows. Despite this he demonstrated his love for God by offering a thousand burnt offering. God visited him that night and asked what he needed. Solomon’s Kingdom priority thought made him the richest and the wisest man in the world; he only asked God to “Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?” 2 Chronicles 1:10 (KJV). His request was unusual for a man. Any man would have immediately asked for riches, wealth and honour, plus the lives of their enemies, especially the head of Adonijah, his brother, who has also declared himself king (1 Kings 1-2). But Solomon esteemed taking care of God’s people with wisdom and knowledge more than anything.

Hear what God said, “wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like” 2 Chronicles 1:12 (KJV). Till date, no man or king or president has ever had the wealth, peace, fame that Solomon enjoyed as king. This became possible because Solomon put God first in his heart and thought.

Let us learn from King Solomon and our Lord Jesus who put God first and had all that man desires on earth today added to them supernaturally by God. This means that some challenges we experience could be as a result of not putting God first because if you have Him in your heart He will definitely come through for you.

Prayer: Father, I receive grace to put your Kingdom first in everything I do in my life in Jesus name.
