Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 17 &18; John 13:1-20
“And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim; But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandment, and not after the doings of Israel” 2 Chronicles 17:3-4 (KJV)
Living well and committed to the service and worship of God is a lifestyle that is worthy of emulation. When we make God our source of life and strength and be completely dependent on Him it becomes a point of reference and triggers off a generational posterity. The first ways of David upon which Jehoshaphat was said to have followed after was the era in his life when he was completely dependent on his God for survival. Living a lifestyle of total obedience to God and His word establishes you in life and guarantees you the abiding presence of the Almighty – “And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat “Like David his father Jehoshaphat developed the secret of always enquiring from God before embarking on any mission or task. This was one of the greatest attributes of David which gave him victory in all his wars.
The act of enquiring from God is a product of absolute dependency on God and has given men victory and direction in their endeavours throughout human history. It takes meekness and humility for someone to be totally dependent on God. The action of Christ in washing the disciple’s feet at the eve of His departure epitomizes the concept of humility. The Lord and Master took a towel and girded himself, poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet; this is the very height of humility that our Lord and Saviour admonish us to follow (John 13:14). Humility attracts divine attention. The scriptures says in Psalm 25:9(KJV) “The meek will he guide in judgement: and the meek will he teach his ways” Them that are clothed with the cloak of humility are the channel of manifestation of divine power. Our Lord Jesus Christ in His earthly ministry was the greatest living example of the manifestation of the power of God in total humility. Jehoshaphat in our narrative of today waxed strong and was made very rich by practicing the act of total dependency on the God of his father David.
My dear reader humble yourself before God and answer to His invitation “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28(KJV). Christ will give you peace of heart and will comfort you. Today is the day of salvation tomorrow may be too late.
Prayer: Father, grant me grace to have a lifestyle of humility all the days of my abode on earth.
