Bible Reading: Job 22, 23, 24; Acts 11.
Memory Verse: “He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.” Job 24:22 (KJV)
Some years ago, my country, Nigeria had a leader who was obsessed with power. He was a military head of state who took power when the people were clamoring for installation of a civilian president who was elected by majority of the people but whose election was cancelled in order for the military to remain in power.
The military man twisted the hands of the political leaders such that he was made the presidential candidate of four of the five political parties in existence then. It was obvious that he would be declared unopposed on the election date as it was suggested that the only party that did not choose him would not field any candidate for the presidential election. However, his calculation did not take into consideration that there was a God in heaven who decides the affairs of men irrespective of the power the person may hold on earth.
Job 24:22 (KJV) says of that God, “He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.” Truly to this word, God Almighty called this powerful head of state in Nigeria such that he slept on a night and he never woke up the following day! Certainly, no man is sure of life. His power could not wrestle him from death. This is a lesson for us mere mortals that irrespective of your position on earth, God can call you anytime and you will have to abandon whatever you are doing permanently. So brethren, what are you doing now? Are you sure God will be happy with you doing such a thing? The sovereignty of God has not been proved more than recent things happening in Nigeria. Suddenly, two General overseers of big churches lost their closest children who had followed their footsteps in the ministry. Then he took another General Overseer away. All of them in the second quarter of this year, 2021!
Everyone will give account of his/her stewardship on earth to the Almighty. Are you ready to give that account. Do you think if God calls you home today, you would have finished well? It is time to begin to do soul searching and make amends because no one is certain of when he would die. Even our Lord Jesus said in Mark 13:32 (KJV), “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” And the value of eternal life is stressed by Jesus again in Matthew 16:26 (KJV), “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Action point: Please examine yourself daily to ensure you are ready to face God on your activities on earth if He should call you today!
