Bible Reading: Psalm 40, 41, 42; Acts 27:1-22.
Memory Verse: “Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.” Psalm 42:7 (KJV).
Life is full of challenges. When you are out of one, another one roles in. And being a Christian does not exonerate you from having your share of challenges. God only promises he will make a way out for you. In Psalm 50:15 (KJV), he says “And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” David was faced with a lot of challenges, one after the other particularly when his own son overthrew him and he had to run from the town for his life. In the process, he faced several abuses on his way out but had no option. On his way to self exile due to his son’s coup, the descendants of Korah wrote in Psalm 42:7 (KJV), “Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.”
As waves happen after waves, the deep challenges are calling on other deep ones and all these overwhelmed David. However in the midst of these challenges, David recognised that his deep needs are longing for the deep mercies of God for comfort.
So when everything appears to be going down, when circumstances appear to be getting worse, there is urgent need to ensure your deepest need is to seek for the spirit of God and focus more on the capabilities of God so that you are lost in his presence and thus get to reach the deep of the Spirit. That is a level where all your focus is on God and not your challenges. At that time, God proves himself as the master of the whole earth if you allow him by submitting your total self to him. To immerse yourself in the Spirit, start with thanksgiving, then go to praise and worship and in the process pray in the Holy Ghost. It’s important to note that when you get so immersed in the presence of God, you will hear the response of God to your yearnings and be amazed !
Underpinning this deep calling on the deep is your trust in God’s ability to do all things and your total submission to his will.
