“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. – Luke 4:18
Jesus Christ is the fulfilment of this prophecy. God the father by His Spirit sent Jesus who became flesh and was made a propitiation through faith in his blood to declare his righteousness for the remission of sin. His entrance into the world was not given enough publicity but his earthly ministry commands undeniable proof that he is the son of God. He came to preach the good news of the kingdom to the poor. He said “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for their’s is the kingdom of heaven. Matt. 5:3(KJV). He came to fulfill the prophecy of God’s deliverance for humanity. He came to set the captive free, for “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”. John 8:36(KJV). Jesus came to declare the acceptable year of the LORD which is our year of jubilee, our year of spiritual emancipation. He came to set humanity free from the captivity of Satan. He came for the recovery of sight to the blind. We are to arise and shine for Jesus Christ our light has come and His glory has risen upon us. He has come to set us free from the shackles and intimidation of the wicked. About his coming Zechariah has this to say “As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water”.
Prayer: Father give me the grace to fully comprehend the wonderful redemption that Christ has purchase for me at the Cross. In Jesus Name.
