Bible Reading: Psalm 72,73; Romans 9:1-16
“Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel , who only doeth wondrous things” Psalm 72:18 (KJV)
God has variously been described as a God of wonders because of the wondrous things He has done and still doing all around us. Wondrous, as used by the Psalmist, means amazing, inspiring awe, marvellous. It means something remarkable. All His creations inspire awe and causes us to marvel.
Even in the lives of humans, God has done wonders, especially in favour of those who worship Him. Take for instance in the old testament, the wonder He did in the life of Abraham and Sarah where the natural law was suspended, and an old lady gave birth to a baby boy. The wonders He performed in Egypt when the enemy refused to let God’s people go. The highlight was when He parted the Red Sea for them to pass through on dry land.
Jesus was sent down to the earth as Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 9:6 (KJV), “For unto us a child is born… and his name shall be called Wonderful..” Jesus performed so many wonderful works never before seen on the earth. They were so many that not all were recorded in the bible. Blind eyes were opened, the dumb can now hear and speak, and the dead were raised back to life. These wondrous works brought so many closer to God. he told His disciples, “as the Father hath sent me, so send I you” John 20:21 (KJV).
We are sent to the earth as signs and wonders too after the order of Jesus (Isaiah 8:18). The disciples of Jesus manifested the presence of God in signs and wonders such that even the shadow of a disciple healed many that were sick. You are meant to wrought signs and wonders too and that requires being one with the One who does the work through us.
God does these wondrous works so that men may fear Him and come closer to Him. If you have seen these signs and wondrous things being done by Him and yet you are not close to Him now is the time to come to Him through His Son Jesus. And before long He will manifest Himself to you as you continue to obey Him and walk in His ways so that others may come to Him through you.
Action Plan: Thank God all through today for the wonderful things you have seen Him do in your life and around you. Give Him all the glory He alone deserves.
