BIBLE READING : PSALM 135; 136;1CORINTHIANS 12
“For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure” Psalm 135:4 (KJV)
A treasure is something of much value. To say that the Lord has chosen Jacob unto himself is wonderful, to add that He has chosen Israel as peculiar to Him is such a glorious privilege. To be peculiar means to be special and to say that Israel is not just God’s choice but His peculiar treasure is amazing, knowing that this choice of Israel is not based on merit but on grace. Israel is a product of encounter with God. Jacob was a supplanted, a trickster, cunning and crafty man but his encounter with God straightened him out, transformed him and blessed him as God’s peculiar treasure. It is a great delight to know that, like Jacob, new birth encounter transforms one into a new creation. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” 2Corinthians 5:17 (KJV). Like Jacob, such a one becomes a peculiar treasure to God.
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”1 Peter 2:9 (KJV). This is not a result of good works but a product of God’s grace. God performs a work of grace on the repentant sinner and enables him to do good works he was created to do.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” Ephesians 2:10 (KJV). In reality, a believer in Christ Jesus is a peculiar treasure to God.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for making me a peculiar treasure to you.
