BIBLE READING :Psalm 146; 147;1 Corinthians 15:1-29
“Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God” Psalm 146:5 (KJV ).
Any man without help is in big trouble because no man is sufficient of himself. We all need somebody. God was right when he said at creation that it is not good that a man should be alone. The scripture emphatically states that woe is the man that is alone because when he falls no one will raise him up. God had to make for man a help mate suitable. This does not only apply to marriage but to every aspect of life. However, as important as the help of man is, it is vain compared to the help of God.
Most time people step in to help somebody, they will rub it on the person’s face so the person would be indebted to them. They will make it very obvious to everyone who cares to listen that they are the reason for the person’s success. God’s help is with no spring attached. God’s help makes the one helped happy. Such help is often a result of love. It is not based on one’s merit, it is selfless and extravagant.
The God of Jacob is a helper, the life of Jacob is a living proof. Jacob was marvellously helped by God. The help of God turned his frustration to fulfilment, from craftiness to straight forwardness, from fear to faith. Jacob was running from his brother Esau until he had encounter with God and obtained favour. This encounter changed him from Jacob (Cunning man) to Israel (Prince with God). Seek God’s help for your life today. He is a very present help in times of need.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for being my helper.
