Bible Reading: Isaiah 34.35 & 36: Colossians 2
“Say to them that are of fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you” Isaiah 35:4 (KJV)
The above scriptural verse elucidates the place of vengeance as God’s instrument of protection and deliverance for His people. God builds up the atrocities and wickedness of the wicked against His children and invoke vengeance to recompense for the suffering of His children. In Egypt, God avenged the children of Israel before they were allowed to leave Egypt. His vengeance further drowns the army of Egypt in the Red Sea. The bible says in Psalm 94:1 (KJV), “O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, show thyself.” The Almighty God allocates time for the continuous act of wickedness until the cup of the wicked is full, then He will perfectly execute His vengeance for the restoration of His people and release of their blessings.
The characteristic of longsuffering makes God a perfect executor of vengeance. God’s vengeance is a payback package against the wicked as stated in Ezekiel 25:17(KJV) “And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.” Until God avenged Israel against Egypt their deliverance did not come. When we run to mount Zion God uses the instrument of vengeance to deliver us, thereafter He consecrates us to live and dwell in His presence. This is better illustrated in Isaiah 63:4 (KJV), “For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.” Our God is really the God of vengeance.
God’s vengeance is always very severe considering that He knows and sees everything and every of man’s activity. We invoke God’s vengeance against the wicked through prayers. As a Christian you can invoke divine vengeance upon your adversary. The Lord is always ready to deliver us from the hand of the wicked when we cry to Him. It vexes the heart of God when His children are been maltreated and consequently He moves in to deliver His children by avenging them. He makes the oppressors to pay seriously for their wicked acts against His children. It is God instrument of vengeance that guarantees our deliverance.
Prayer: O LORD avenge me against the wicked who set stumbling stones on my way.
