Bible Reading: Isaiah 65 & 66; 1Timothy 2
“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” 1 Timothy 2: 5&6 (KJV)
A mediator is someone who mediates. To mediate is to resolve differences or to bring about a settlement, between conflicting parties. Our Lord Jesus Christ is a worthy mediator, who in order to reconcile man to God paid the price of Sin with His blood. The reason for man’s separation from God was sin and the price set for the remission of sin is death. “The soul that sinneth, it shall die. (Ezekiel 18:20a). So, death was the judgement set for any soul that sinned, and because God’s stand is yea and amen and because the scripture cannot be broken it became imperative for a sinless person to pay the penalty of sin. Jesus, our Saviour, stepped in to pay the price, being hundred percent God and hundred percent man His blood met the requirement for the redemption of man. Hence He is the worthy Mediator to bring peace between God and man. ”And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance” Hebrews 9:15 (KJV).
Having obtained eternal inheritance for us through His death, He bestowed His righteousness upon us and consequently commissioned us into the ministry of reconciling man to God. As painful as the death of His Son was, love compelled the Majesty on high and the Excellent glory to give His Son a ransom for humanity. God’s love for man equated the value of His Son to man, for the price paid for a good determines the value of the good. Job 33: 23&24(KJV) vividly paints the picture of the reconciliation assignment to believers “If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show man his uprightness: Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom” The ransom God found for us to exonerate us from dying in our sin and going down to the pit is Christ Jesus. He is indeed a worthy ransom. He paid the debt we owed which we could not pay, He was the shepherd on whom was laid the burden of us all. Isaiah 53:6 (KJV) vividly described this shepherd-burden ransom of Christ, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” A true ransom, we sinned He paid the price of our sin with His own life. We, as Christians, are committed testifiers to this truth by going about proclaiming this gospel of reconciliation initiated by Jesus Christ. This is due time to testify.
Whosoever that may be reading this piece I beseech you by the mercies of God that you should not allow any force deprive you from reconciling to God by accepting this great ransom, Jesus Christ, into your life now, for tomorrow may be too late.
Prayer: My Father and my God, I deeply from my heart thank you for finding such a worthy ransom for me in Christ Jesus.
