…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Habakkuk 1, 2, 3; Revelation 15.

Memory Verse: “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.” Habakkuk 2:1 (KJV)

Habakkuk is a prophet of God about whom very little is known. However he shows how to develop a deep relationship with God. He saw that the Chaldeans who are less righteous are plundering the Israelites and was wondering why God who cannot behold iniquity would allow such a thing. He decided to go to God for answers and this took time in coming. In his response, he showed how a christian should respond to various challenges and sometimes what seem to be apparent contradictions on earth.

The first thing is to always take such issues to God in prayer. And when with God, you need to exercise patience. He said in Habakkuk 2:1 (KJV), “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.” Similarly, when faced with any issue, you as a child of God should examine it and wait for answers while watching.

In those days, a watch tower is a tower where a watch man will stand to watch those coming into the city whether for good or bad intentions. The watch man has to be patient, observant and attentive before passing the message on what he saw to the leadership of the town.

In a similar version, Habakkuk decided to wait patiently for God listening to various ways by which God may communicate his decision to him. Such decisions may be communicated to you directly by a still small voice, loud communication, dreams, vision, through his word while studying it or by showing you through someone else. Whichever option is chosen by God, patience is required on behalf of the person making the request.

There is no request that God cannot answer provided you are approaching Him with a sincere heart and open mind. Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV) says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” God will answer you though the response may be different from your expectation. However your decision to exercise patience with a life of righteousness will draw you closer to God.

Action Point:

Whatever you are inquiring from God, be patient and remain sincere and trust Him for your answer and you will never be disappointed.
