Bible Reading: Exodus 16-19; Matthew 19:16-30
“And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?” Exodus 16:28 (KJV)
Laws or instructions or commands from God have been described as the highway of life; it leads to a life of peace and stability when adhered to. There is no way man can successfully live on this earth without a guide. The bible, God’s word, is the guide He gave us. You excel in life when you consistently follow God’s word.
God’s instructions are as a result of His love for man and these instructions are not grievous (1 John 5:3). The angels of God excel in strength because they hearken unto God and do His will (Psalm 103:20). Strength is needed to go far in the journey of life and this strength comes from Obeying God. Proverbs 24:10 (KJV) says, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” The problem man faces today all comes down to not following God’s instructions.
In our bible reading in Exodus 16, God made a provision and gave a clear command as to how they make use of it. He provided manna for the Israelites and they are to gather only what they needed for the day. It should not be kept till the next day except on the sixth day when they were to gather twice as much as they need for a day since the next day is sabbath. Those who gathered more than was instructed ended up with maggots and a terrible smell (Exodus 16:20). There is always a terrible smell around you whenever you disobey God’s command. This makes God angry.
Man is still disobeying God despite all He has done and showed to them. But the dearer you hold His word to your heart the more it reflects in your life. In fact, Jesus described the life of a man who hold on to God’s word as one who built his house on a rock such that when the issues and storms of life came it was able to withstand them all ( Matthew 7:25). Have you been keeping to God’s instructions?
Jesus, His Son, was given as a model for us to follow. He came and never did a thing outside what He was instructed by His Father. That same possibility has now been poured on us by virtue of His grace. You can serve and obey God if only you allow Jesus into your life today, and make a decision in your heart to live only according to God’s commands. Only then can life be meaningful.
Prayer: Father, I ask for grace to hold on to your word in my heart like never before in Jesus name.
