Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 19-21; Luke 15:11-32.
Memory Verse: “And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.” 1 Samuel 19:1 (KJV)
Goliath terrorized the Israelites for forty days asking them to present their champion to fight him but king Saul was afraid as none of his army was able to face the giant ( 1 Samuel 17:1-16). Suddenly, David showed up and faced the giant and killed him. He was thus able to restore honour to the Israelites and the king was greatly relieved. However the same king began to seek ways of killing David out of envy and jealousy! He was so jealous that he sought the support of his son and his servants to achieve the objective. In 1 Samuel 19:1 (KJV), “And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.”
He tried all sorts to achieve his objective having seen that his son Jonathan loved David and would not kill him. In fact, he became more desperate to the extent that when they told him David was with the prophet who installed him as a king; Samuel, he sent messengers to take him from there so he could kill him. But three times they went to David but could not touch him because God protected him rather, they were prophesying. Saul himself decided to go directly and he was put to shame as he stripped himself naked and prophesied! ( 1 Samuel 19: 20-24 ). If God be for us, who can be against us? Every enemy of yours that is determined to harm you, God will deliver you from their hands and put them to shame in Jesus name.
If God is for you, He will protect you from all your enemies as we saw in the case of David. In fact, He will build a hedge of fire round you that your enemies will not be able to reach you! However, for God to be for you, you must have a relationship with him. You must accept him as your Lord and Saviour; forsake your sinful life and maintain a life of obedience to his words. And finally, you need to recognize his voice when he speaks to you. To do this, you must fellowship with him regularly by spending time with him in studying the Bible, rendering thanksgiving, praise and worship as well as praying to him regularly. By this when he talks, you will hear him and then obey. And the more you obey, the closer you get. So let your focus be on God and not the enemy. Exalt your God above every adversary and you will be amazed how the mighty fall to the invisible power of the most high!
