Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 7-9; Luke 19:1-28.
Memory Verse: “That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.” 2 Samuel 7:2 (KJV).
What do you dwell on in your heart? Both evil and good deeds emanate from the heart. After the thoughts had been dwelled upon, then a decision is made on what to do. The Bible says in Matthew 12:35 (KJV), “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.” Our father knows the treasure of your heart and therefore judges you based on that. The Bible says in Matthew 9:4 (KJV), “And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?” This was before they spoke or acted.
Thus, David was in his house and thought of the peace that God had given him and was concerned that the Ark of God was dwelling in a tent and therefore decided he was going to build a house for the Ark. He voiced his thought to a prophet of God in 2 Samuel 7:2 (KJV), “That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.”
God saw his good intentions and rewarded him abundantly for the thought even before he took any action. Thus, God promised to build him a house, will make his son to succeed him, establish his son’s kingdom forever, his mercy will not depart from him and David’s throne be established for ever! ( 2 Samuel 7: 4-17).
This is why God is a righteous Judge because He knows all your intentions and cannot be deceived. It is therefore important that you have good intentions and dwell on such good thoughts in your mind towards God and men and God will reward you accordingly. That is why the Bible says in Galatians 6:7 (KJV), “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
That seed is not just what you do but also what you think about and intend doing. So it is important that you are intentional on doing good always. May God give you the grace to do so.
Prayer point:
Father, help me to intentionally seek for the good of men for the rest of my life in Jesus Christ’s name.
