BIBLE READING: 1 CHRONICLES 14-16, JOHN 9: 24-41
Memory verse: “If this man were not of God, he could do nothing”. John 9:33 (KJV)
Our Lord Jesus had an extraordinary ministry while here on earth. It was full of signs and wonders, notable miracles and undisputable display of power and authority. Such a man who shook the earth while he lived on it for thirty three (33) and a half years, doing great and mighty things in just few years of ministry, definitely needs to be studied. The impact of his ministry on earth is still felt today. And when we take a close look at all Jesus did, we can find a recurring point of reference which can be seen as the secret of his success. Jesus always acknowledged his source. He said in Luke 10:22 (KJV) “All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him”.
Jesus made the people know that he didn’t do those miracles by his own strength but that his power came from God. Many persons caught the same revelation at the time and testified same. One example was Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. “The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him” John 3:2 (KJV). So also, it is very important to note that to dwell in the realm of the miraculous, we must acknowledge God as our source. Without God we are powerless. Jesus says, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing”. John 15:5 (KJV)
When you recognize God as your source and put hiym first in all you do, victory is assured. A man who knew this secret and used it well was David. In 1 Chronicles 14:10 (KJV), we see this clearly. “And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand”. If you read further in verse 14 specifically, you will see David asking the Lord again and guess what… God gave a different instruction that gave him victory.
Prayer: Father, I confess I am powerless without you. I acknowledge that you are my source. Please empower me to live victoriously.
