Bible Reading: Psalm 17-18; Acts 19:1-20
“Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,” Psalm 17:8 (KJV).
The phrase “Apple of the eye” comes from a Hebrew expression that literally means “little man of the eye”. This refers to the tiny expression of yourself that you can see if you look directly into the eyes of anyone. So to be the apple of the eye of anyone means you are the object of the person’s affection.To be Apple of God’s eye therefore means being the object of God’s affection. Why will God make anyone Apple Of His eye? There are at least four reasons for this:
a. He is your creator. God created you in your mother’s womb and nurtured you till you were born. If you have ever created anything, you will most likely be fond of it, more so if it is like you in any way! That is why God is fond of you as you are the work of His Hands.
b. He created you in his image. Genesis 1:27 (KJV) says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” So you are a reflection of God. He understands your infirmities. Hebrews 5:2 (KJV ), “Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.” Whenever you are going through any challenge, he is aware because He created you in His image. In fact, He created you for fellowship. God wants to fellowship with you regularly and that’s one of the reasons for creating you in His image (1 Corinthians 1:9).
c. He redeemed you: God sent His only son to redeem you so as not to perish. John 3:16 (KJV), “For God so lovedthe world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Consider the fact that Jesus laid down his life so that you may be saved! That is a proof that you are his Apple.
d. He has Eternal Life for you. God has prepared a special place for you when you leave this earth so that you can have continuous fellowship with him (John 14:1-3). For Him to do that, He must have a great affection for you.However, you should note that not all of His creatures are apples of His eyes. It is only those who live in obedience to His words. Are you one of them? Then he wants to have fellowship with you even now. Just create the time and interact with the Almighty God even now.
Prayer point: Father, whatever I will do that will cause my position to change from being the apple of Your eye, prevent me from doing it in Jesus name.
