Bible Reading: Proverbs 3-4; 1 Corinthians 13
Memory verse: “Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.” 1 Corinthians 13:8 (NKJV)
David, a man after God’s heart, once asked some questions in Psalms 8:4 (KJV), “What is man , that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” As a man who was well versed in the scriptures and in God’s dealings with His people, David wondered what made God come to man over and over again. Even when we drift away, He still stretches His hand to bring us even closer.
Love is the reason behind all of God’s dealings with man. Love made Him create the first human pair. With or without man He is still God any day, any time. Yet, He chose to give them dominion here on earth to represent Him here. And when they fell to the devil’s lies He immediately set in motion a grand plan to bring them to a higher level through His only begotten Son. God’s love for man is not dependent on man, No! He loves us because He is love.
Love is the reason for life; God’s life poured on us at creation and moreso, after accepting Jesus His Son. Love is spiritual because God is a Spirit. So Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13 talks about love at length after talking about spiritual gift. He encouraged the Corinthian congregation to earnestly desire the things of the Spirit solely because they sincerely want to help, comfort and bless others in life. Without love behind it your gift won’t please God.
Love is a compassion and commitment to see the best of God come out in a person. God is love (1 John 4:8). God or love is gentle, affectionate, sensitive, open, persistent and tough when He chastises us. God loves us without restrain such that in the thick of our sins Christ died for us. He has empowered us to love too. Jesus told His disciples in John 13:34 (NKJV), “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
Love never fails to meet it’s target because it is God working in and through you. And you have been empowered to love. If it fails it is not love because love is so deep it doesn’t change when it is not returned. Love is so amazing.
Action point: Meditate on the love of God in your life and see how you can show same to people around you.
