…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 16/09/2022

Bible Reading: Proverbs 30-31; 2 Corinthians 8

Memory verse: “For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing” 2 Corinthians 8:3 (KJV)

Sacrificial giving is an essential part of Christ’s nature and character. It all started with the Father, who, in John 3:16, had to give us His only begotten Son to save perishing mankind and restore them to their maker. Jesus, the Son, also gave up all He had in heaven and took the lowest of position here on earth just to see humans move into a higher realm and quality of life. These sacrifices by both Father and Son is the bedrock of our Christianity today.

The Macedonian church apparently connected to the love of God leading to the sacrificial givings they made. Paul commended them because their giving was unique. They gave us a new perspective towards giving. From 2 Corinthians 8:2 (NLT) says, “Though they have been going through much trouble and hard times, their wonderful joy and deep poverty have overflowed in rich generosity.” They gave out of their “deep poverty.” So giving is not totally a function of what you have but a state of your heart.

Giving to others is one of the reasons why God gives us work and jobs. We are to help people especially the needy among us. Moreso, as we do, we are obeying God’s commands. It shows that we trust in God because we believe that all we have is from Him with us only holding these things in trust for our Lord.

Giving mustn’t always be convenient. It was not convenient for the Father to give us His Son, neither was it convenient for Jesus to do same. It is a sacrifice. God takes note of those who give sacrificially (Psalm 50:5). Besides, He has made grace available to assist you in any of His character He wants you to manifest. So settle it in your heart to always give and God’s grace will come upon you mightily.

Prayer: Lord, I receive the grace to make giving a lifestyle.
