Bible Reading: Isaiah 22-23; Ephesians 3
“That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;” Ephesians 3:16 (KJV)
There is an inner man of the heart known as our spirit that needs to be strengthened with might by the Spirit of God. That is the need to build our spirit man to withstand the evils in this earth. The simple way to do that is by feeding our spirit with the word of God. A lot of us know how to feed our physical bodies every day to sustain it but only feed our spirit man occasionally. This is the reason we have robust grown bodies with fragile spirits. We fail to realize that what sustains us in life is our spirit man, not our bodies. We need more than physical strength to be alive.
By design we are meant to live from the inside out and not from the outside in. When Jesus was fasting and praying and the devil came to tempt Him to turn stones to bread because He was hungry, He replied in Luke 4:4, “… saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”* If your life comes from only the physical bread that you eat, you would not grow in God’s kingdom. If Jesus, the ‘Living Word,’ needed the ‘written Word,’ then we all need to be sustained by the Word of God revealed in our spirit.
The Word of God is ‘Spirit and life’ and can only be accessed through revelation by the same Spirit. “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63 (KJV). This is why meditation in prayer is very important. The same way you structure your meals for physical sustenance is the same way you have to structure spiritual meals for spiritual sustenance because that’s when you truly start living. The strength that is built over time by feeding on God’s Word is known as faith.
The time to start feeding your Spirit man with the right food of God’s word is now. Stay healthy spiritually by listening to God’s Word in a message, reading your Bible and meditating every day.
The same way we don’t grow to maturity physically overnight is the same way we don’t grow spiritually into maturity overnight. There is no better time to build our spiritual stamina and maturity than now! Stay connected to God’s word.
Prayer: Father, I receive grace to listen, read and meditate on your Word daily in Jesus Name.
