Bible Reading: Isaiah 65-66; 2 Thessalonians 1
Memory verse: “For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the LORD. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.” Isaiah 66:2 ( NKJV)
In Genesis 6, God destroyed the world because of lack of humility. Every man went his own way ignoring their maker. This lack of humility is what led to man striving with God. He says in Genesis 6:3 (KJV), “…My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”
Humility is the submission of your soul to God. Your soul comprises of your mind, will and emotion. The mind is not strong enough to reason out God’s word. God’s word is to be accepted by the heart; when He speak you are to follow wholeheartedly. Sadly, many people choose to reason out what God’s word says in their own mind; imagine Noah telling the world that God would send a flood to wipe off the earth when in fact it hadn’t rained at all ever before! They laughed at Noah to their detriment when they reasoned out His word.
Those who submit their souls to God dwell with Him (Isaiah 57:15). And God gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). The more you submit yourself to Him in totality, the higher you go in the spiritual realm as He brings you closer to Himself and fills you with His Spirit.
But to get to this level you must be contrite. This means to be crushed or broken hearted leading to your total submission to God. Until you realized how weak you are in this earth on your own only then will the need to submit to God arises.
Ask for grace for a contrite heart for that is where it all begins.
