Bible Reading: Jeremiah 23-24; 2 Timothy 2
Memory verse: “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth” 2 Timothy 2:25 (KJV)
There are many today who oppose the truth of God’s word choosing to follow their own way instead. These have always been in existence even in the time of Apostle Paul, who in the above scripture appealed to the younger minister, Timothy, to instruct suchlike ones in meekness. Meekness is the virtue needed to win those who are in opposition to the truth.
Meekness is the ability to cool down every fire, every heat that is thrown at you from the outside. It is like being in charge of what gets into your emotions. It is like placing a gate on your emotions. It is the ability not to allow any negative energy intrude into your emotions. Those who oppose the truth will deliberately want to get at you like they did Paul. But meekness made Paul overcome these oppositions.
Matthew 5:5 (KJV) says, “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.” Without meekness you will get upset easily and display negative energy not good for the gospel. It was meekness that made Paul go back again and again to places where he was stoned and assaulted for the gospel’s sake. No wonder he could say, “… I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” 1 Corinthians 9:22b (KJV).
Meekness helps you handle external influences and determine how they affect you. Knowing the consequences of pain, unforgiveness and bitterness, meekness will help you stop these external influences. Meekness will make you truly live long and inherit the earth. Moses was the meekest man on earth (Numbers 12:3). He lived till 120 years of age without dimness of eyes and was very healthy despite all the oppositions he faced from the children of Israel. The universe protected him. He could not be killed. It took only God to kill him.
Receive meekness today from Jesus.
Prayer: Dear Father, endue me with the spirit of meekness that I may tarry long in your vineyard winning many to Christ to Your glory in Jesus name.
