“And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, the kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve ” — Luke 22:24-26(KJV)
True leadership begins with servant hood. Jesus told his disciples “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant& Matt. 23:11(KJV). Serving others is one of life’s most precious privileges. In service you are able to give a large part of your life to others. You flow into others, rather than, others flow into you. Everybody loves quoting the golden rule but most do not practice the same. The golden rule may be old, but it hasn’t been used enough to show any sign of wear and tear!
The world is no more kind and, that was the same error the disciples of Jesus were falling into until he warned them of the dangers. The rulers, kings and political leaders in bible times who Jesus summarized as kings of the Gentiles exercised undue lordship over their benefactors. The same is true in our days. The political, traditional and in some cases the religious class have turned themselves into gods! They have become like the unrighteous judge of Luke chapter 18, who neither feared God nor regarded man. They have taken custody of power to service their perfectly elastic bellies.
Every child of God is ordained to be a steward that is to be a chief servant, both in the vineyard of God and in any capacity we find ourselves in the society we live in. We should constantly remind ourselves that, we also have a master who is overseeing us. We should serve one another in the fear of God as Christ himself served us, knowing that, those who serve are actually greater than those who are served.
We find in Luke 22:29 that, it is servants that will be appointed to rule kingdom like Jesus. They will eat and drink with God in his Kingdom. The question is; where do you belong? Are you a servant or are you a lord?
Prayer: Father, in the Name of Jesus, endue me with the Spirit of servanthood so that I do not treat others as second class people.
