“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.
And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword”— Numbers 31:1,2,7( kJV)
When we live in obedience, God will always be with us like the way the mountains surround Jerusalem. He protects us from sicknesses and deadly diseases which more often than not, are a result of satanic enchantments, curses and divinations. Life’s terrains are full of obstacles and that is why we have to tread carefully. You can not judge any form of disobedience when you are living in perpetual disobedience with the laws of God.
God, from the above scriptures, had ordered a revenge mission of Israel on the Medianites who caused his people to sin. Moab had confederated with the elders of Midian to cause Israel to break the laws of God so that they can be destroyed. They succeeded after several failed attempts (see Numbers chapter 25:1)
The casualties of this return leg of the attack include; Balaam the son of Beor who they slew with the sword. This was the same prophet hired by Barak the king to curse Israel. He had been warned of God severally in their previous failed attempts. Even the Vision of his donkey would not suffice for a “U-turn”
Absolute obedience with God is our sure wall of protection against the devices of the wicked. When they sinned he turns his back at them, but as soon as Israel came to terms with their maker God gave them victory over their enemies.
It is also worthy of note that, throughout the battle, Israel did not lose any of the men of war. They were securely protected because obedience was secured. As we read this epistle, the question is, are we ready to be obedient in all our ways? Let us make a resolve to walk in consonance with the divine laws of our maker. This will secure our blessings here on earth, and in the world to come, eternal life
Prayer: Father fight my battles as I commit to obedience
