Bible Reading: Daniel 7-8; 1 John 5.
Memory Verse: “If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.” 1 John 5:16 KJV.
A sin unto death is any sin committed that cannot be forgiven and it leads the person to eternal death. What may lead anyone to such a sin? It is a situation where one continues to commit sin and shows no remorse for such flagrant disobedience of the Lord. God expects each of His children to live a life of obedience to His words but where you fall into sin, then you should be remorseful and quickly run to God for mercy and forgiveness. And God is ever merciful and will forgive such a fellow. However where a supposed believer commits sin continuously because he expects to be forgiven, he will get to a level where the devil will seal his conscience that he will not bother about repentance again. No wonder Apostle Paul said in Romans 6:1-2 (KJV), “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? [2] God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” That is why Lord Jesus said such a person is not fit for the kingdom of God! “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62 KJV
The Bible says in Romans 6:23 (KJV), “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” However, when one calls on the Lord Jesus Christ to save him and is ready to forsake his sins and live in obedience to Christ, then his sins are forgiven and he is given a new beginning. But where one who knew the Lord before changed and denied Christ as Lord and Saviour, the Bible says the blood of Jesus can no longer cleanse such a person, Hebrews 10:26 (KJV) says ‘For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,” In addition to this the Bible clearly states that anyone who blackmails the Holy Spirit has committed a sin unto death! Luke 12:10 (KJV), “And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.” This is a sin unto death. Committing a sin unto death means the blood of Jesus can no longer atone for such sins and the person will end up in hell fire.
However if you are not a believer of Christ yet, then you need to make haste and run to the Lord and Saviour of the world. And all you need is to confess your sins, forsake them and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
Once you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, your sins are not unto death as long as you are not an apostate! It is also important that you care for your brethren by praying for them when you see them committing any sin so that they may be forgiven. “If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.” 1 John 5:16 (KJV)
Prayer: Father, whatever will draw me to apostacy, draw me far away from it in Jesus Christ’s name.
