Bible Reading: Zechariah 4-6; Revelation 18.
Memory Verse: “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6 (KJV)
I don’t know if you have ever met men who call themselves self-made. By that they mean they worked extra hard to attain their current level. That is not bad, but they tend to give the impression that it was achieved without God! I pity such people as it means either they have not read the account of Nebuchadnezzar or they are unbelievers. Otherwise, they would have read the word of God in 1 Corinthians 4:7 (KJV), “For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?”
Whatever any human being is able to achieve, it’s because he has been given by God. While your hard work plays a key role in determining your attainment in life, the God factor is the most critical and should not be underplayed.
There was a preacher in a Pentecostal church in Nigeria. The anointing of God was so much on him that he raised several dead people back to life. God used him for several healings and miracles. Then he allowed pride into his life such that he was no longer going for Bible study in his church. And when asked why he was not attending, his response would be how many dead had been raised by the preacher? He became full of himself and he ended up being a mad man!
Zechariah 4:6 (KJV) is quite clear on man’s limitation. It says, “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” Whatever any man achieves is not by his strength but by the Spirit of God and should therefore give glory to that God.
What have you achieved or what position have you attained? Please give glory to God who has made it possible as the one who can kill or wound could have prevented you from getting to that level!
Action point: Please express your gratitude to God Almighty for helping you to get to where you are now.
