Bible Reading: Malachi 1-4; Revelation 22.
Memory Verse: “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” Malachi 4:2 (KJV).
There is a story of a man who was the chief executive of a company and wanted to choose a successor. He decided to choose based on character and so he called his management staff to intimate them of his plan to choose a successor and decided to use an unusual method by giving each of them a seed to nurture for a period of time. He said his review of how they nurture the seed will help him to decide. So each manager went home and nurtured his seed. Over months most of them had emerging trees flourishing from the seed they had been given except one whose pot where he planted the seed did not germinate. He did all he could but the seed did not germinate. He wondered why only him had such a seed.
Then the day of review came and they were all expected to bring their pot of seed for review and they all brought beautiful plants except the manager whose seed did not germinate. They were all laughing at him at the ceremony. Then at the peak of the celebration, the C.E.O. inspected all the various plants and announced his successor. It was the man whose seed did not germinate. He explained that the seed he gave to them could not germinate given the treatment he gave to it before handing it over to them. The man who was the laughing stock of other managers became the chosen candidate. Just like the sons of the prophets were joking with Elisha when he was following Elijah but when he collected the mantle, they bowed to him.
The Sun of Righteousness is another description of our Lord Jesus who came to save human kind and has promised to heal everyone who truly feared him. But not only healing but also nurture them to become mighty. Malachi 4:2 (KJV) says, “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” Meanwhile those that refused to accept Him would be burnt! (Malachi 4:1).
Fearing God encompasses obeying his commands to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, forsaking your sins and living a life of faithfulness. Do you fear God? Then call on the Sun of righteousness to heal you or your situation; physical, financial, spiritual and others.
Prayer Point: Sun of Righteousness, please arise and make me and my household whole today.
