Bible Reading: Genesis 33-35; Matthew 11
Memory verse: “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Matthew 11:29 (KJV)
We live in a world of selfishness, a world full of offenses where people will deliberately and carefully hurt you. We live in a world that is highly insensitive to the emotions or to the feelings of another because they are driven by selfishness, pride and self interest. No wonder people are getting sicker by the day. But how do you manage people’s behavior and still live long and happy?
Meekness is the answer. Matthew 5:5 (KJV) says, “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Blessed here means ‘to be happy.’ It is also used in Greek to describe ‘those who live in another world far from the problems and worries of others.’ They seem to be free from earthly cares and struggles. That’s why they are happy. Meek people don’t allow negative energy intrude into their emotions. Getting upset easily is a sign of depleted meekness.
Moses was an example of meekness. In fact, the bible says in Numbers 12:3 (KJV), “Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.” Moses hardly get offended easily. He corrected the Israelites several times for their mistakes. He never threatened Kora, Dathan, Abiram and their accomplices when they stood up against him, even though he speaks face to face with God. Rather, he handed them to God who brought justice on them. No wonder he lived till 120 years with his eyes not dim and could still climb a mountain.
Jesus was meekness personified. He knew why He came to the earth and the information and power he came with. He manifested meekness in the face of fierce opposition that He could boldly say, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Matthew 11:29 (KJV).
Ask God for grace for meekness if you are to live a fulfilled life like Moses and our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Dear Father, help me to live a meek life in Jesus name.
