Bible Reading: Genesis 41; Matthew 13:1-32
Memory verse: “And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” Genesis 41:16 (KJV)
We serve a God who does things for His name’s sake first. Whatever happening around us today is meant to point us to God as the source and sustainer of life on earth. Therefore, it is wisdom to learn to always give thanks to God in all things, only by doing this can we bring glory to His name.
God has determined to catch the attention of the people of Egypt and He did it through a slave boy named Joseph. Pharaoh dreamt at night two different dreams that none in the land could interpret. By the plan of God, Joseph was brought in to interpret the dreams and he did. Hear the first response that came out of King Pharaoh upon hearing the interpretation of his dreams, “And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?” Genesis 41:38 (KJV)
Pharaoh immediately gave glory to God for giving them a man as Joseph. Remember, the Egyptians have many gods they serve but in this instance the first thing Pharoah did was give glory to God for Joseph’s sake. Even before the dream was recounted to him Joseph already put God ahead. “And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” Genesis 41:16 (KJV)
Giving God glory must be a lifestyle. Joseph lived that kind of life. He attributed everything to God in his conversation with Pharoah and God showed up and changed his story instantly and also worn the hearts of persons who before then never believed in God. The LORD says in Isaiah 42:8(KJV), “I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”
Are you giving God glory in all you do?
