Bible Reading: Genesis 46-48; Matthew 14:22-36
Memory verse: “And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone” Matthew 14:23 (KJV)
Prayer is an acknowledgement of God’s existence. It is a declaration of our dependency on God. God told us to depend on Him. So you can never be wrong praying.
Prayer is a posture of humility. This means that you estimate yourself rightly before God. Humility is the submission of your soul to God. Jesus is the perfect example of humility. He performed wonders in the bible like no man ever did. Yet, He said, “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear I judge: and my judgement is just because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” John 5:30 (KJV)
Jesus could do nothing on earth except He hears from God. Prayer was His lifestyle. And He came to the earth to draw us close to the Father. In fact, His Father testified about Him to us with a commandment in Matthew 17:5b, “… this is my Son, in whom I am well-pleased; hear ye him.”
Any man who does not pray is a proud person. Peter had to pray to Jesus to help him when he started sinking ( Matthew 14:30). God wants us to cry out for help too. God opposes the proud; He only gives grace to the humble (James 4:6) and without grace one cannot live a fulfilled life on this earth.
Prayer is a sign of humility. Make it a lifestyle to always go to God in prayer in everything and anything and your life will be well guided like Jesus.’
Prayer: Dear Father, help me to make prayer my lifestyle in Jesus name.
