“And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight” – Luke 24:31 (KJV)
Russell Conwell, author of Acres of Diamonds wrote of a farmer who was wealthy and contented until he had of beauty and worth of diamonds. After learning about diamonds, he decided to sell his farm and go in search of diamonds so that he could be richer.
He used the proceeds of the farm to search everywhere for diamonds but could not get it. He finished spending his money and became poor to the extent he had to commit suicide.
Meanwhile, the purchaser of his farm had found diamonds on the farm!
The moral of the story is that most of the things we desire and pursue are right within our reach but because we do not truly know our capacity nor understand our environment, we underestimate it while looking elsewhere for those things. As Christians, the bible says in Ephesians3:20(KJV). “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”. So all we need is within us but we need to locate it. How?Seek the face of God by fellow-shipping with him in praise and worship, by asking him for direction and being attentive to him when he answers us.
In Luke 24:31, the two followers of Christ could not recognize him while he was talking to them until their eyes were opened. They saw him, spoke to him, walked with him and even sat at the table with him but could not recognize him until their eyes were opened!
Prayer: Father, open my eyes to see all that I need to see and my ears to hear all that I need to hear to make me a better person in Jesus name.
