Bible Reading: Exodus 35-36; Matthew 23:21-39
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid”. Matthew 5:14 KJV
Jesus in His earth walk knew who He was and He dared to call Himself by His right identity against the wrath of the religious leaders of His time. He did not define Himself by what He did or the place of His birth. He knew He was born of God and that He was one with the Father. In the scriptures, Jesus referred to Himself as the bread of life, the light of the world, the son of man, the good shepherd, the resurrection and life, the true vine, the way, truth and the life, and many other names He manifested.
This is why who we are in God’s kingdom is what really matters in the journey of life. That is knowing our real identity from God’s Word. Whatever you become in life starts with who you call yourself and you don’t have to call yourself what people call you or where you are in life because you are exactly who God says you are.
The true definition of who we are is actually from the one who created and made us. This is why we say that we are who God says we are. Nobody or situation has a right to define you in any way that the Father has not defined you in His Word. If you fail to call yourself who God calls you, you will be called who you are not.
The Bible says in Ephesians 5:8, “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:”
The Bible makes no mistake when it calls the believer ‘the light”. You are the light of the world. When you were not saved the Bible says you were ‘darkness’; it didn’t say that you were going through rough and hard times. Even though you are having a great time and everything looked smooth, you were darkness by nature.
All of that changed the moment you received Jesus Christ into your heart as the Lord and saviour of your life. At new birth, you became the light by nature and it doesn’t matter what you’re going through, you remain the light of your world.
If Jesus could confidently declare in John 8:12, “… saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life,” you should be able to declare, “I am the Light of the world!” It is when you begin to say this and believe it that you begin to light your world with salvation, hope, and joy.
Prayer: Father, thank you for declaring me as a light in my world. Let the effect of that light bring many to salvation in Jesus Name.
