Bible Reading: Exodus 37-38; Matthew 24:1-25
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21
Before Jesus was born, the angel instructed Joseph to name Mary’s baby – Jesus! The reason is simple; He is a savior and He will save mankind from their sins. Jesus means savior and deliverer! This is the reason the angel said they should give Him that name.
Jesus saves people from their sins. It is in His nature and character to save and deliver because it is His purpose of coming to the earth. He didn’t come to punish men because of sin, He came to save them. Wherever there is sin and its antecedents, He makes available His saving grace to draw and redeem men from all sins.
Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Jesus is the Name that the righteous runs into and is saved.
When the angel said in Matthew 1:22 that “… he will SAVE HIS PEOPLE from their sins,” it meant that He will deliver them from the consequences of their sins because sin comes with consequences and we need salvation and deliverance from the consequences of sin which is eternal death. Thank God we have Jesus, with our eyes constantly upon Him, sin will never have dominion over us because we have been redeemed from its grip. “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”
Hebrews 12:1-3
When Jesus went up on that cross, He paid the ultimate price for man’s sin. Today the cross stands to remind us that our sins have been forgiven when we believe. That is not all, if you fall and make mistakes, He is still there to forgive and remain your savior. Matthew 1:21 says, he will save his people (not enemies) from their sins.
Because you have received Jesus as Lord, you are His and he will not punish you or let evil befall you. Jesus is with you to help you. Are you still dealing with one habit, addiction or trouble in your life? Don’t run away from Him, He is your savior! Go to His presence, stay in the company of other believers, Call on Him and keep declaring in agreement with His Word who and what He says concerning you and He will always save you.
Never forget that Jesus is your savior and He will save and deliver you froms and appearances of evil.
Prayer: Father, thank You for Your love and grace of salvation You have shown us in Christ Jesus.
