Bible Reading: Exodus 39-40; Matthew 24:26-51
“For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.” – 1 John 3:20-21
One of the ways that the devil torments believers is through an ‘evil’ conscience because the spirit of every man has a voice that speaks to them just like our body speaks to us through our feelings! This voice is what is known as our conscience. Nothing weighs more heavily on the human spirit like condemnation and condemnation is the voice of an evil conscience. Hebrews 10:22 says, “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” An evil conscience is always anticipating punishment but thank God Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” In Christ Jesus, there is no guilty verdict so do not anticipate punishment.
While it is true that God speaks and leads us through our conscience, we must understand that our conscience is only a worthy guide when it has been trained and reconditioned by the truth of the scriptures. If not, the devil can use that same conscience to accuse you and you might think it is God.
In our text, we are encouraged to silence every voice of condemnation that the devil might want to use against us and we are told to do this is by recognizing the fact that, “… HE (GOD) IS GREATER than our consciences (our hearts), and He knows all things” You must hold on to God and His Word! What God has said in His Word is greater than anything your conscience tries to lay on you that is not in agreement with the Word. You must always look to God in His Word regardless of how you feel because God and His Word override your conscience; so silence that voice of condemnation today and keep it quiet by the authority of the scriptures.
Prayer: Father, I receive grace to build my conscience from your word always in Jesus’ name.
