“He must increase, but I must decrease.” – John 3:30 (KJV)
When you have both hot and cold water to be mixed in a cup, the more of hot water, you pour into the cup, the hotter the mixed water becomes. On the other hand, the more cold water, you pour, the colder the mixed water becomes. So generally the condition of the water you want in the cup; will determine how much hot or cold water you will pour in it.
So are we. God has given us the freedom to pour either more of ourselves or Jesus in our lives. The choice is ours and that depends on our decision. If we are to be more like Christ, we will have to continuously study his word and practice it . This will mean doing less of what our flesh desires but more of God’s instructions. The more we do this, the more we resemble him. This is what John the Baptist said when some of his followers asked him why Jesus was baptizing people like him. He said in John 3:30( KJV). “ must increase, but I must decrease”.
For us to truly be Christians, we must continuously yield to Christ in every area of our life until we become like him. As we study the word, we identify areas in our lives that are not in consonance with the manual and adjust ourselves to obey. This way, our internal enemies such as lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life will give way to love of Christ. 1 John 2:16 (KJV) says “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
Prayer: Father, increase in me while I decrease until I am full of you in Jesus name.
