Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 25-26; Luke 16:19-31.
Memory Verse: “The Lord render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the Lord delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the Lord’s anointed.” 1 Samuel 26:23 (KJV)
It is not every opportunity that presents itself that should be taken. Some are baits that can lead one astray. It is therefore important that you ask God before taking any opportunity. Several years ago, I was offered employment to be the C.E.O. of a financial institution and I asked God whether I should take it but God asked me to pray for promotion where I was. So, I did not take that offer and instead prayed for promotion in my employment then. Indeed I was promoted, sent for an international training and the institution that offered me employment was taken over by my employers!
In a similar situation, David found his enemy, the king of Israel, Saul deeply asleep and could have killed him easily but would that be God’s will? He knew the will of God which is re-stated in 1 Chronicles 16:22 (KJV), “Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.” So, he did not kill him instead he made a prophetic statement in 1 Samuel 26:10 (KJV), “David said furthermore, As the Lord liveth, the Lord shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.” And indeed Saul perished at battle front and David was made king in his stead!
So for every opportunity that presents itself to you, check whether taking such opportunity is in compliance with God’s word and if there is no clear scripture on the case, ask God before moving ahead. Remember always that not all that glitters is gold. David further stated how God deals with us when he was explaining to Saul why he did not kill him in 1 Samuel 26:23 (KJV), “The Lord render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the Lord delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the Lord’s anointed.”
In whatever you do, ensure you are faithful to God and your judgment is righteous! But the heart of man is desperately wicked, who can know it? You can only seek to do the will of God if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour as you would have been given a new heart. If you have not, please surrender to Him today so that He can continuously guide you in your ways.
Prayer Point: Father, instruct and teach me the way I should go all through today and beyond in Jesus Christ’s name.
