Bible reading: 1 Kings 21-22; John 3:1-22
Memory verse: “And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.” 1 Kings 21:20 (KJV)
The God we serve is a God of justice. He is righteous and will judge every works done by man both in the open and in the secret. He loves justice. Micah 6:8 (KJV) says, “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” God wants justice from man because He has shown man what is good. He cannot bless a system that has a justice problem. Injustice allows evil to prevail in a kingdom.
Imagine a King who has so many lands and can build any garden anywhere, yet he chooses to take the only one belonging to a man of lesser position in the kingdom. This evil was done by the help of the king’s wife, Jezebel, with the collaboration of the elders of the city who accused Naboath falsely of blasphemy against God.
God hates a false witness, Proverbs 6:16, 19 (KJV), “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: [19] A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” Evil will be the order of the day in a city where the King’s wife and the elders of the city connive to accuse a just man falsely.
King Ahab sold himself to evil by not even asking about the death of Naboath but immediately took over his vineyard, thereby selling himself to evil as Elijah rightly answered, “I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.” 1 Kings 21:20b (KJV). No wonder the bible says in Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV), “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” In his desperation for Naboath vineyard, King Ahab supported evil in his kingdom.
God knows the heart of man. And He will repay all according to their doings. The word of the LORD to Ahab was a judgement that came to pass. “Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel.” 1 Kings 21:21 (KJV)
Be mindful of your thoughts before you act or speak. Evil is always lurking somewhere in man waiting for an external force to activate it. That’s why we have the word of God and the blood of Jesus at our disposal for use. His blood cleanses us continually till the end of our days on earth.
Prayer: Father, if there is any evil in me waiting for opportunity to manifest itself I plead and cleanse myself with the blood of Jesus. Help me to be conscious of my thoughts in light of your word and ways in Jesus name.
