1 Chronicles 1-3; John 12:1-19
Memory verse: ” And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:” 2 Chronicles 1:11 (KJV)
The heart is the part of man God works with. It is our innermost being. He gives to each man what is in their heart. He sees our thoughts and the motives behind anything we do. What we do outside mostly comes from the heart. He is not fooled by our outward appearance. 1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV) says, “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
Just like his father, Solomon started his work with God from the heart. He loved God so much he sacrificed animals in numbers never seen before. The Almighty showed up and told him to ask Him of anything. His reply was from the heart, “Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?” 2 Chronicles 1:10 (KJV). And God replied, “And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:” 2 Chronicles 1:11 (KJV)
What is in your heart? God sees the heart and commends anyone with a good heart. Sadly, many fill their heart with so many issues that aren’t supposed to be in it. The Pharisees in our bible reading of yesterday were so Intent on monopolizing religious piety such that they ended up planning to kill Jesus (John 11).
Submit your heart to God and He will give you a heart after His likeness.
