Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 29-31; John 18:1-23
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” – 1 Peter 1:23
As believers, we are born from the seed of God’s Word. What we see in the Word is who we are! The first man – Adam is called the son of God because his life came directly from God via God’s breath. The Bible says in Luke 3:38, “… the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of ADAM, THE SON OF GOD.”
Adam as the son of God had the responsibility of reproducing all of mankind after the ‘likeness’ of God but at the fall, God’s life in him was corrupted by sin and all of humanity was plunged into spiritual death. “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” – Romans 5:12. The man believed the words of the devil and death took a hold of his spirit man.
Since the price for man’s sin had to be paid for by a ‘sinless’ man and this was impossible considering the condition of mankind, God in His wisdom decided to become a man. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” – John 1:14. The devil didn’t know that God would go that far to save man in his fallen state. Through the agency of His Word, God’s life would take on human form in the womb of a virgin by the name of Mary. The ‘life-bearing seed’ of God’s Word came to Mary when angel Gabriel visited her and declared, “… Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David…” – Luke 1:28-33.
Mary was favoured to be the ‘earthen vessel’ through which this prophecy would be fulfilled! Conception took place when she responded by saying, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her..” – Luke 1:38. From that day the life of God took form in the womb of Mary just like it did in Adam who was the son of God formed from the dust of the earth.
This is the same experience every child of God had the day they got born again. God gave you the right to become His child (John 1:12). Our text says that we are born of the imperishable and immortal seed of the Word of God which is the living and everlasting word of God! You are everything the Word of God says you are.
Prayer: Father, thank you for making me what you said I am in Jesus’ Name.
