Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 32-33; John 18:24-40
“And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved..” – Hosea 12:13
We consistently see in the Scriptures that one of the ways that God reaches out to people and meets their needs is by sending His messengers or prophet to them. The coming of the prophet is an answer from God because they are helpers of destinies.
When God wants to reach a person with a desired change, He shortens the distance between that person and the prophet! According to our text, Moses was the prophet that God used to bring Israel out of Egypt and He still uses men today!
Jesus taught this truth in Matthew 10:40-41 when He said, “40 He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41 He who receives a prophet IN THE NAME OF A PROPHET shall receive a PROPHET’S REWARD. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.”
How you receive God’s sent one is very important because you receive God by receiving the person that Jesus sent! Don’t get overly familiar and trivialize the words of the prophet because it is when you receive God’s prophet in the ‘name’ or ‘capacity’ of the office that they are sent that you receive the help that God has sent to you. God’s help is what Jesus refers to as the ‘prophet’s reward!’
Jesus taught in Luke 4:24-27 that when the widow of Zarephath welcomed Elijah in the capacity of a prophet, her fortune turned around! In the same way, when Naaman the Syrian met Elisha the prophet, he got healed! What Jesus established in these two examples is the fact that it wasn’t a coincidence that both persons weren’t Jews so they didn’t let familiarity come between them and the person that God sent to them!
When God sends His prophet your way and you receive that prophet in the capacity of a prophet, you will receive God’s help! There is always divine intervention and preservation when God sends you a prophet! It might not always be spectacular and dramatic but it is always supernatural!
Prayer: Thank You Father for the gift of Your prophets sent to us. Help me by Yor Spirit to receive the prophet sent into my life.
